The ceremony to commemorate the completion of the Liberty Expressway, also known as the Spur 601, was held on April 27, 2011 in El Paso, Texas. The project opened to the public on schedule in January of 2011. The 7.2 mile roadway improves mobility, reduces congestion and provides key access to the El Paso International Airport, Fort Bliss Military Reservation and Biggs Army Airfield.

The Spur 601 would have not been possible without the partnerships of many public and private entities. No one person deserves all the credit as many people cooperating with one another were instrumental to the project's success. In attendance were Congressman Silvestre Reyes, State Representative Joe Pickett and Mayor John Cook, all of whom have displayed great leadership for the City of El Paso. On behalf of the U.S. Army, Colonel Joseph A. Simonelli Jr., Garrison Commander, Fort Bliss attended and spoke of the positive impact of The Liberty Expressway. Breif remarks were also made by Jon Abrams, CEO of J.D. Abrams, L.P., Amadeo Saenz, Jr., P.E. Executive Director of the Texas Department of Transportation and Scott McLaughlin, Chair of the Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority.
